Questions
Frequently asked
Short answers to what couples ask us most. Each one links to the full guide where there is more to say.
Getting married in Ibiza
When is the best time of year?
June and September for warm days, long evenings and a warm sea. May and early October are calmer and better value, with a little more chance of rain. July and August are the hottest and busiest. Full details: read the guide
How far ahead should we book?
Twelve to eighteen months for popular venues in June and September. Smaller weddings and off-season dates can come together in six months.
Legal & ceremony
Can we get legally married in Ibiza?
Most couples from abroad marry legally in their home country and celebrate in Ibiza with a symbolic ceremony. A civil wedding in Spain needs at least one partner to live in Spain or be Spanish; a Catholic church wedding is a possible exception. Full details: read the guide
Do we really need two years' residency?
No such fixed period is in the Spanish Civil Registry Law. What is required is that one partner is domiciled in Spain, usually shown with the padrón certificate.
Can we marry in a church?
Yes, Catholic couples can marry in one of Ibiza's parish churches. The papers start with your parish priest at home and go through your diocese to the Diocese of Ibiza. Allow at least four months. Full details: read the guide
Can same-sex couples marry in Ibiza?
Yes. Same-sex marriage has been legal in Spain since 2005, with the same rules as for every couple.
Venues & villas
Can we get married at a holiday villa?
Only where the owner allows events and the celebration keeps to the noise and neighbourhood rules. Tourist-rental contracts must now forbid events that break them, so get permission and music hours in writing. Full details: read the guide
Until what time can we have music?
Night hours under the local noise rules generally start at 23:00, so outdoor amplified music usually ends around then. Venues with a sound-proofed room or club let the party carry on inside.
Can we marry on the beach?
Weddings on public beaches are generally not permitted, and natural parks such as ses Salines ban events. Beach clubs, restaurants on the sand and cliff-top venues are the usual alternatives.
Guests & travel
How do guests get around?
Book shuttles for every guest movement on the wedding weekend. Taxis are scarce in summer, especially at night. Full details: read the guide
