In short

  • A private wedding is not an 'illegal party', but noise rules still apply: night hours usually start at 23:00.
  • Since 2025, holiday-rental contracts must forbid events that break neighbourhood rules. Ask any villa in writing how they handle weddings.
  • Weddings on public beaches are generally not permitted; ses Salines Natural Park bans events altogether.
  • From 1 May to 15 October, fire near woodland needs permission: think twice about fireworks and sky lanterns.
  • Drones may not fly near Ibiza airport without coordination; check the official map.

Ibiza takes noise and parties seriously, and in the last few years the rules have tightened. None of this rules out a wonderful villa or outdoor wedding, but it does mean asking the right questions before you book.

The 'illegal parties' law

Since 2022 the Balearic Islands have banned illegal parties: large gatherings run for profit and sold outside legal channels, for example with tickets. Fines for holding one in a home or a protected natural area run from €100,000 to €300,000. Owners are presumed to know what happens on their property, suppliers of music and equipment can be fined too, and a holiday-rental licence can be suspended for up to three years.

Enforcement is real. In June 2026 police broke up a party of about 1,000 people at a villa near Buscastell; the organisers admitted the facts and paid €180,000 of a proposed €300,000 fine (Periódico de Ibiza). None of these cases were weddings, but they explain why villa owners now put strict rules in their contracts.

The Balearic government is clear that private and family parties fall outside this law and need no special authorisation. A wedding where you invite your own guests is a private celebration, but noise and neighbourhood rules still apply.

Holiday-rental villas

Since June 2025, the Balearic tourism law says contracts for tourist rentals must expressly forbid parties or events that break basic neighbourhood rules, and the operator must ask guests to leave within 24 hours if it happens. Failing to do this is a serious infringement for the operator.

What this means for you:

  • Ask the villa, in writing, whether weddings are allowed, how many guests, and until what time music can play outdoors.
  • Prefer villas and fincas that host events regularly and have an indoor or sound-proofed space for the late part of the night.
  • Be wary of any villa that says "no problem" without details. If neighbours complain, the police can stop the music, and the operator has every reason to end your stay.

Noise

Each municipality has its own noise ordinance. As examples:

  • Sant Josep (the south-west, where many villas are): night hours run 23:00–08:00, with outdoor limits in residential areas of 55 dB by day and 45 dB at night. The police can order a noisy activity to stop at once. The council can authorise exceptions for some private events, but you must apply at least a month ahead and it is discretionary.
  • Santa Eulària brought in a new ordinance in May 2026, with night hours from 23:00 and similar limits.

In practice: plan the ceremony, dinner and speeches outdoors, and move the dancing indoors, into a sound-proofed room, or to a venue licensed for late music. Your planner and venue will know the local practice.

Beaches

A beach ceremony sounds simple but usually is not. The sand and the strip behind it are state coastal land (dominio público marítimo-terrestre), so any structure such as an arch, chairs or an aisle needs authorisation, with municipal rules on top. Beaches are public, and Sant Josep has said it does not give permits for weddings or private events on its beaches. Ses Salines Natural Park bans parties and events of any kind, and the Balearic government fined a company €6,001 after a brand event there in 2025.

The usual solution is a venue on the beach, such as a beach club or restaurant, or a cliff-top or villa with a sea view.

Fireworks and sky lanterns

From 1 May to 15 October the fire-risk season applies: lighting fire on or within 500 m of woodland needs authorisation, and much of Ibiza is pine woodland. Professional firework displays fall under national rules and, above set amounts, must be notified to or authorised by the Spanish government's regional office. At the highest fire-alert level, pyrotechnics near woodland are banned. Sky lanterns are not named explicitly, but they are hard to square with the ban on releasing burning objects. Sparklers and flame shows need the same care: ask your venue.

Drones

Drones may not fly in the zone around Ibiza airport (up to 45 m high and within 6 km of the runway ends) or in controlled airspace without coordinating with the airport and air traffic control. Check the official map at drones.enaire.es and make sure your film-maker is registered and insured.

Questions

Can we have our wedding at a holiday villa?

Sometimes, if the owner allows events and the celebration stays within the neighbourhood and noise rules. Since 2025, tourist-rental contracts must forbid events that break those rules, so get the villa's permission and conditions in writing.

Until what time can the music play?

It depends on the venue and the municipality. Night hours generally start at 23:00, so amplified music outdoors usually ends around then, and the party moves indoors or to a sound-proofed space.

Can we get married on the beach?

Usually not on a public beach. The common alternatives are a beach club, a restaurant on the sand, or a cliff-top or villa with a sea view.
