In short
- Ibiza Town is 10–15 minutes from the airport; the north can be over an hour.
- Taxis are scarce in summer: book transport for every guest movement on the wedding day.
- Formentera is about 30 minutes away by fast ferry.
- Put guests near the venue, or plan coaches from one or two hotel hubs.
Ibiza is small, about forty kilometres end to end, but country roads, summer traffic and a real shortage of taxis make transport one of the things to plan most carefully.
Getting to the island
Ibiza airport (IBZ) has direct flights from most of Europe in summer and fewer in winter. For guests from further away, connect through Barcelona, Madrid or Palma. Send save-the-dates early: flights and rooms for July and August get expensive fast.
Drive times from the airport
These are rough times by road, outside rush hour:
- Ibiza Town: 10–15 minutes
- Sant Antoni: 20–35 minutes
- Santa Eulària: 20–35 minutes
- Portinatx and the north: 40–70 minutes
Taxis
The island's own seasonal taxi plan says summer demand far exceeds supply, and Ibiza has had to bring in drivers from other municipalities as an emergency measure. Do not plan a wedding around guests finding taxis, especially late at night.
Shuttles and coaches
The simplest plan: house guests in one or two hubs (for example Ibiza Town and the hotels nearest the venue), then run coaches or minibuses at set times. Arrange at least one late return and one very late one. Your planner or a transport company can run this.
Boats and Formentera
A boat day is a classic part of an Ibiza wedding weekend. Fast ferries reach La Savina on Formentera in about 30 minutes, or charter a boat for a day of swimming and lunch. See boats and yachts.
Cars
Hire cars are useful for guests staying a week, but there is little parking at many venues. On the wedding day, put everyone on the shuttles.
